Stadia launch title Gylt to see a multiplatform release

Last week, news came out that Google’s cloud gaming service Stadia will go out of commission on January 18 of next year. To those who closely followed Stadia’s life cycle, this came as little surprise. Regardless, this inevitably harmed developers who still planned to bring games to the platform. Additionally, Stadia’s closure will result in numerous games becoming unavailable to play. But on the bright side, not all of Stadia’s exclusives will become lost forever. One such exclusive, the 2019 launch game Gylt, will officially go multiplatform next year, according to its developer Tequila Works.

Tequila Works announced its plans in a rather short update on its website, which states that the developer has worked on bringing Gylt outside of Stadia for quite a while. The update does not clarify which platforms the developer will port Gylt to, with not even any mention of a potential PC release. However, it did recommend that fans stay tuned to Tequila Works’ Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn pages for more information.

What’s the game like?

Even the developers’ descriptions of the game itself on the official Gylt website and elsewhere remain mostly light on details. But essentially, Gylt is a horror game that follows protagonist Sally as she moves through an unsettling world in search of her cousin Emily. Throughout the game, Sally continuously faces her “worst fears” while having to witness “the emotional impact of [her] actions.” To survive against the game’s unsightly creatures, Sally has the option of either hiding from or directly confronting them.

It’s fortunate that the end of Stadia will not spell the end for Gylt, even if the game did not exactly blow critics away upon release. The upcoming multiplatform launch of Gylt has the potential to bring a whole new audience to the game, although that mostly depends on if the developers can port the game over successfully.
