Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak – Garangolm guide
It’s going to take you a while before you can fight Garangolm in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. To be clear, once you’ve started the expansion’s campaign, you’re only at Master Rank 1. Past that point, you’ll have to complete several hunts to progress further. Eventually, at Master Rank 3, you’ll get “A Rocky Rampage,” the Urgent Quest that pits you against Garangolm in the Citadel.
This beast is right in the middle of the central clearing (directly north of the spawn point). If you want, you can explore a bit of the Citadel before battling it so you can familiarize yourself with the area.
Note: Fiorayne will also assist you as an AI companion even though this is not a Follower Quest/Support Survey.
In any case, you’ll want to watch out for Garangolm’s attacks when it’s angry, as most of these can one-shot you even with decent defense and extra HP from food. Its most dangerous moves are:
- Mega Boulder Throw – This ability has a fairly obvious animation. Garangolm will bury its paws and slowly lift a chunk of the ground. This giant boulder will then get thrown in a massive frontal arc, likely hitting you if you can’t get out in time.
- Piston Crash – The tell for this one is readily seen, since Garangolm will smash the ground with its fist, causing steam to erupt. Then, a second later, it will launch itself toward your general direction. This attack is also done in quick succession, so try to keep moving until it’s done with the sequence.
- Fiery Gauntlets – Its fists will be surrounded by a smoldering bunch of rocks. These protrusions can be destroyed, so you can focus on them or the boss’ head to deal more damage.
Note: The Garangolm Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is out in the open, so it’s possible for another large monster to also go to this location, triggering a one-on-one bout. Try to mount its rival and attack with it to help you with your damage output.
Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is available via Steam.
