The rapid recovery of graphics card prices and availability continues, with some Nvidia RTX 30 Series models nearing launch prices. The latest price cuts are not limited to a single manufacturer, but EVGA is seemingly leading the way by dropping the prices of its RTX 3080 12GB graphics cards below $1,000 USD on its website. This is part of a wider effort to restock its top-end offerings with improved prices too.
You can now buy the RTX 3080 12GB FTW3 Ultra by EVGA for $999.99 at Newegg. Mind you, this is the top air-cooled version complete with a massive cooler, a factory overclock for better performance, and integrated RGB for that extra dazzling effect. Just last week, the standard XC3 version started at $1150 USD, and wasn’t even in stock. You’d have to opt for the XC3 Ultra that cost $1250 USD.
Price cuts extend to the RTX 3070 Ti, 3080 Ti, 3090. Right now, you can get the RTX 3080 Ti FTW3 Ultra for $1299.99 on EVGA’s website. The RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra is available for $1699.99 on EVGA’s website. The RTX 3070 Ti FTW3 Ultra is already sold out on EVGA’s website, but you can still get it directly from Newegg for the same discounted price of $759.99. Prices for entry-level and mid-range Nvidia graphics cards are improving as well, but at a slower rate for now.
The same pricing trends extend to AMD Radeon RX 6000 Series graphics cards as well. You can now actually get the Gigabyte 6900 XT Gaming OC at the MSRP of $999.99 at Newegg, albeit after a rebate. Micro Center has the Powercolor 6900 XT Red Devil listed for $1049.99. Other examples of downward pricing momentum include the MSI 6700 XT Mech for $529.99 at Newegg and the MSI 6600 Mech for $339.99 at Newegg.
Trouble yourself with the extra rebate, and you can get this MSI 6600 Mech for $5 over the $330 MSRP with shipping costs included.
It’s great to have options
The recent return of competition to the graphics card market is due to a variety of factors, but several major factors are at play. It’s estimated that demand from crypto miners is down significantly, and many gamers already have RTX 30 Series graphics cards now. Additionally, recent tariff exemptions were enacted to allow the majority of AIBs to pass savings along to consumers.
Lastly, it’s just standard practice to start selling graphics cards at lower prices near the end of a generation. Both Nvidia and AMD are expected to launch powerful new lineups before the end of this year.
If you like what you see, now is certainly a better time to buy a graphics card than for the past 18 months or so, but prices are sure to keep getting better in the weeks and months ahead. At this rate, we could see MSRP become a thing again. That’s a big win for consumers too, considering how ridiculous the initial price range for the RTX 3080 12GB lineup was.
