Elden Ring: How to beat Morgott, the Omen King

Remember Margit, the Fell Omen? You should, as he was likely the first main boss you ever faced in Elden Ring. Well, turns out he was playing around in your initial encounter. Now, in Leyndell, near the mighty Erdtree, you meet his true form. Morgott, the Omen King is a main boss of Elden Ring, and here’s how you can beat him (again, technically).

Elden Ring boss guide – How to beat Morgott, the Omen King

Morgott uses some of the same moves he did before, but has a lot more nasty surprises in store. He isn’t messing around, this time. Morgott hits like a truck, uses Incantations, and even gets new behaviors and moves after half his health is gone. But he isn’t unbeatable.

Elden Ring Morgott, the Omen King boss fight

Morgott shatters his cane, revealing his Cursed Sword. Prepare for slash attacks, while also dodging his usual holy hammer, sword, and throwing knives. He’s far more mobile this time around, often sprinting to get up close before hitting your with a barrage of melee attacks.

  • Melee attacks – Morgott will charge up and swipe at you with his sword. Sometimes he’ll follow that up with a second swing, or he’ll try and hit you with his hammer. During his “second phase,” he’ll use the sword and hammer as part of a combo attack.
  • Spear – He charges you from a distance with a spear made of holy light.
  • Daggers – Morgott hurls three daggers your way, sometimes he’ll follow up with another throw.
  • Sword rain – Holding a glowing sword, Margott will summon a rain of holy swords that fall from the sky.
  • Cursed-Blood attacks – Morgott will create a red sword and either slice down with it, or he’ll use it to impale you.
  • Angry yell – At half health, Morgott will yell and unleash an AoE attack. Afterwards, the ground gets covered in a liquid. There will be small patches that boil for a second before bursting. Margott’s hammer attack will also cause a patch to burst.

Morgott’s attacks are fairly simple to dodge up until he’s at half health. His melee swings can be dodged either forward, backward, or to the side. Once he stops attacking, get some melee or spell damage in. Morgott’s daggers can be dodged as well. Just track them with your eye and move once they get close. His spear move takes a couple seconds to charge. Again, dodge this the moment he’s close and follow up with an attack of your own.

His sword rain attack is a different matter. He sets it up by conjuring a holy sword that he points to the ground. Glowing swords gather in the air and, once he thrusts the sword into the ground, they fall. Give Morgott some distance has he prepares this move. The blades keep falling, but only in patches. You can maneuver around them and continue to fight Morgott.

At half health, Morgott will unleash an AoE attack, so give him some room. Afterwards, his sword catches fire and his melee combos are much more intense. It’s best to try and put some space between you and Morgott during his combos, and then go in close once he takes a break.
