Developer CyberConnect2 has put the character unlock conditions in the in-game Main Menu’s “Reward Panel”. Here’s the list to unlock all 18 playable character with each their own unique moves.

- Giyu Tomioka — How To Unlock: Complete Chapter 6 in Adventure Mode.
- Giyu Tomioka (Kimetsu Academy) — How To Unlock: Finish all 7 Special Missions on Normal Difficulty or buy with 4,000 Kimetsu Points in the Rewards section.
- Hinokami Tanjiro — How To Unlock: Complete Chapter 8 in Adventure Mode.

Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles Unlockable DLC Characters
Below we’ve listed the 6 upcoming DLC Demon characters in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles in the order they were announced along with some most-likely guesses. Of course these are subject to change, but the first 2 have been officially confirmed by publisher Sega. These are your next couple of DLC characters!
- Rui (Comes in Free Update #1; Will be added to Versus Mode)
- Akaza (Comes in Free Update #1; Will be added to Versus Mode)
- Unknown Demon (Comes in Free Update #2)
- Unknown Demon (Comes in Free Update #2)
- Unknown Demon (Comes in Free Update #3)
- Unknown Demon (Comes in Free Update #3)
Note: It’s up to the publisher to make these new characters available in post-launch DLC Packs, and so far they are confirmed to be added through free game updates. So you’ll only need to keep downloading the latest game patches — which is usually turned on nowadays — to automatically get new fighters added. This tactic is sometimes used by the publisher to keep monthly sales for the game high after launch. Plus it’s a very nice perk for you! Free DLC! 
In a recent press release the game’s developers announced the following character DLC details. To quote:
“[6] Playable demons will be added to the Versus Mode of the game in a series of free post-launch updates that add two characters per update!”
- Free Update #1: Will arrive in late October 2021 will add Rui & Akaza as playable Demons.
- Free Updates #2 & #3: Are rumored to add demons Susamaru, Yahaiba and 2 more playable Demons.
